Wayne Carpenter
1946 – 2026

It is with heavy hearts the family of Wayne Carpenter announces his passing.

Wayne was born in the James River area near Sundre. The family farmed there until 1959, when they purchased land west of Rimbey. It was there that Wayne met his wife Sharon while he was riding in the gymkhana. They settled on the family farm and had three children.

To help make ends meet, Wayne went north to build roads in Inuvik, NWT, as well as Norman Wells, NWT. Wayne loved life in the North but hated being away from his family. Wayne and Sharon moved their family to B.C., to the Douglas Lake Cattle Co. Ranch, where his children followed suit by attending a one room schoolhouse on the ranch, as Wayne had at James River. Wayne made lifelong friends on the ranch, curled on the creek in winter, taught his children to swim in the lake in summer, and loved every minute of life on the ranch.

In the ’80s, Wayne and family moved to the Rocky Mountain House area, where they lived until early retirement, then they headed to their beloved Nordegg, where Wayne was able to fulfill his dream of living in their beautiful log home in the mountains.

Over the next 23 years, Wayne became a fundamental part of the Nordegg community. From making sure the community had ice in the skating rink to enjoy, to countless hours volunteering in the library, poker rallies, coordinating highway clean-up, Nordegg Days, and serving as the Nordegg Community Association president, no job was too big or too small for Wayne to say yes to for the community. Wayne went on to set up a bottle sorting operation on his land as an additional way to raise funds for the community. Over the years, he and Sharon sorted, bagged and drove endless amounts of recycling acquired from the hall and residents, an hour into Rocky. With 100 per cent of proceeds going to the community, they raised an astounding $60,000 in funds for the Nordegg Community Association.

In 2024, Wayne and Sharon were awarded the Stars of Alberta Volunteer Award by the Government of Alberta, in recognition of their outstanding commitment to volunteerism and in appreciation of their inspiring contributions to the community.

Wayne will be dearly missed by his wife Sharon of 57 years; his children: Brett (Tamara), Paula and Travis (Rhonda); his precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many special nieces and nephews. Family was everything to Wayne. Wayne is also survived by his older brother Ivan Carpenter of Rimbey, Sandra Beelby of Winfield, and Stella (Ted) Zielke of Onoway.

Wayne was predeceased by his parents Dorothy and Art Carpenter of Rimbey, his eldest brother Myron, younger brother Ormond, sister-in-law Sharon, brother-in-law Charles Brockway, and brother-in-law Fred Beelbly.

A celebration of life will be held at the Nordegg Community Hall on March 14, 2026, at 2 p.m.
