Joyce Levinsky
1950 – 2026

Mother, Grandmother, Wife, Auntie, Sister, Friend,
local comedian

To know Joyce was to know the true meaning of joy and happiness.

There was never a visit that wasn’t full of laughter from her quick wit and dark sense of humour. She had this rare ability to make light of even the most dismal situations; if Joyce was awake, she was cracking jokes, and most often at her own expense.

Although the last several years of her life were marked by severe health issues and difficulties, those things never defined who Joyce was or the way she approached each day. Her circumstances could not steal her joy, because her joy came from within. Her unbreakable faith in her God, her Father, Jehovah was the foundation of her strength and her hope, grounding her and keeping her calm. She was determined to be as involved as she could be in her congregation and was a beautiful example of faithfulness and courage in the face of anything that came her way. She knew her future is bright.

She also appreciated EVERYTHING, always telling and showing the people around her how much she was grateful for them and loved them. That included her love of her husband George. Together they created a beautiful family when Sara was born. Her home was always filled with pictures of her daughter Sara, and so many other loved ones whom she shared her life with, especially her niece Tammy, chosen sisters Julie and Marilyn, as well as their extended families. Her new granddaughter Lennon (or Lemon as Joyce affectionately called her) was an absolute gift to her in the last weeks of her life. Joyce lit up every time she spoke about her.

It was often said of Joyce that we wish she truly understood what a force she was, and how much she encouraged everyone around her with her approach to life and determination to get the most out of it, her genuine love for people and Jehovah, and ridiculous sense of humour, no matter what her circumstances were. If Joyce could leave us with some advice, we’re quite certain she would tell us to laugh — at everything we can possibly laugh at, especially ourselves; to dance as often as we can, to hug the ones we love, to keep our hope strong, and to be grateful for everything.
