Ronald David Manz
July 5, 1957 - May 19, 2011
Ronald David Manz, our beloved son, father, brother and friend, lost his battle with cancer on May 19 surrounded by his loving family. Ron’s courageous fight began in 2006, which showcased his tenacity and positive attitude he applied to all aspects of his life. “Go hard or go home” was the motto by which he lived his life, making the very best of each day and encouraging all around him to follow suit. “It’s not about the destination, it’s about the adventures of the journey,” he always said. Ron was the oldest of 3 children born to Dave and Lorraine Manz of Barrhead, where he lived until graduating from High School in 1975. Ron married high school sweetheart Kim Christie in 1977, eventually settling in Rocky Mountain House in 1981 just months after their first son Darren was born. Ron began operating for Dome Petroleum which involved shift work and allowed him to pursue his passion of fly-fishing. Hockey was a big part of his life in childhood and as an adult, and many friends have laced up along side Ron over the years.
Darrell, Ron and Kim’s second son was born in 1984 completing their family, and together they enjoyed hockey, hiking, camping, cross-country and down hill skiing, and of course fishing over the years. The passion of fly-fishing was taken to another level with Ron Manz’s Before the Hatch Anglers guiding business, allowing Ron to share his love for the sport. Ron enjoyed cooking for friends and family, as well as teaching the process of choosing the right fresh ingredients right through to the proper cooking methods to result in a culinary masterpiece. Ron will be missed by all who knew him.
Ron leaves behind his two sons, Darren and Darrell (fiancé Nicole) Manz, parents Dave and Lorraine Manz, brother Ken (wife Lois, nephews Shaun and Noah; niece Regan) sister Donna (husband Bryan Zubot; nephews Josh Loitz; Evan Zubot; niece Gina Loitz)
Ron was predeceased by his Grandparents Leonard (Curly) and Doris (Deah) Manz; Melvin and Evelyn Frankson, as well as his Uncle Wayne Frankson.
